To become a retired member of UNISON, you must have been a continuous UNISON member for at least two years on the day you retire from employment, be receiving a pension, and not be in other paid employment; You can then contact your local UNISON branch to apply for retired membership status, which usually requires a small one-off payment.
As a retired member, you can choose which UNISON branch you wish to belong to. You can stay in your current branch or choose to join a branch nearer to your area.
You can apply to become a lifetime retired member of the branch. There is a one-off payment of £15.00.
